The Philadelphia band Nude Beach‘s Facebook fan count reached 1,467 this afternoon. Pretty impressive, but if you check out the wall posts, it’s not the group’s tapegaze tunes getting talked about.
Many of Nude Beach’s Facebook fans mistook the page as a naturist dating site — or, in some cases, a place to upload links to NSFW photos and videos. The wall posts misinterpreting the band’s (apparently) controversial name stretches back for months.
The Bathetic Records band’s Facebook status from Dec. 15 speculates: “The nude beach facebook is way more popular than the band. Have we officially ‘made it’ on facebook? leave your thoughts… and some nude pics.”
Although the guys in Nude Beach were clearly poking fun at their accidental web popularity, their Facebook fans continued to oblige.
