Hymn for Her: Hometown Show This Saturday

From phillyburbs.com:
For months, they’ve been calling anywhere they can park their 6-foot long, 1961 vintage Bambi Airstream (complete with dog and baby) home.

But on Dec. 10, Lucy Tight & Wayne Waxing, otherwise known as the duo Hymn For Her, will truly be home as they return to Philadelphia to perform at the Grape Room.

The multi-instrumentalists formed their duo in the City of Brotherly, looking to ply a sound they’ve dubbed “stomp-grass punk folk with a hint of Americana.” Lucy plays a three-stringed broom handle/cigar box guitar, banjo and sometimes even a glockenspiel as she shares vocal duties with Wayne, who also plays acoustic guitar, banjo, dobro, and/or harmonica all while handling percussion on bass drum and hi-hat.

The Grape Room : For the love of Beer and Music

From readysetdate.wordpress.com:
One of the most comfortable venues I have come across. It is dimly lit by well placed dome lighting over the bar and around the perimeter of the building. Not to mention, tea lights randomly placed. (Romance anyone?)  There are also multiple paintings randomly placed  on the walls, not to mention an “out of this world” mural of the staff in outer space. This is painted on the wall the right of the bar where the stage is located.”

Band websites – need help?

I’m proud to say that we get a lot of compliments on our website. Honestly, it’s built out of frustration from dealing with so many other venues and their inefficient websites during my years as a tour manager / booking agent. But take a closer look at our site here – it’s really just a tricked out WordPress page. In fact, many people use WordPress for their businesses and /or bands.

In my opinion, using a blog service for your bands website is the way to go. I believe this because blogger sites are already tied in with SEO’s (Search Engine Optimization) and secondary sites such as Flickr and ReverbNation are easy to utilize since coding options are provided.

Does this sort of thing confuse you?

Drop me a line a we’ll set up an appointment for you to come down to the club and I’ll show you how it all works. In the end, you’ll be able to maintain a professional and functional website that best promotes your band.

It’s so easy, even a drummer can do it. :)

Chalk & The Beige Americans: The Fisher-Price Version of The Roots

From jumpphilly.com:
The three-man group prides themselves on comical variations of their band’s name, including BeigeHeart, Beige Matthews Band, Beigetastic, Beige Jovi, and The Beige Mayers Trio, to name a few.

The two-year old bands’ laid-back style features smooth grooves and avant-garde lyrics.

“If you took a whole bunch of A Tribe Called Quest grooves, with some ‘50s fucking bass styling over that, with guitar over top, where the acoustics are very folksy and gospel,” begins bassist Dave Kasper, “that’s how we play. How do you really explain that to people?”

Baltimore’s ‘A Cool Stick’ returns to its roots

From newsworks.org:
In more ways than one, A Cool Stick has some blunt lyrics. Their song “Hippie Girl” tells of a fantasy conjured by frontman Luke O’Brien about eating psychedelic mushrooms at an outdoor music festival and doing drugs with two beautiful Bohemian girls.

And these guys are the monthly resident musicians at the Grape Room in Manayunk for the rest of July.

Expect to hear brazen hip hop lyrics supported by a drummer, guitarist and bassist who play a mix of indie rock and soul and who all share an ear for improvisation and jamming, says O’Brien.

“I think a big part of our group is we do hip hop over a live band,” says drummer Brian Aranda. “We pride ourselves on our ability to improvise and create on a high level.”

Jennings: Who is she?

From phillyvenues.org:
“When people ask me what/who I sound like, it is genreally something like “Sarah McLachlan with more edge, Tori Amos with less anxt and Imogen Heap with fewer tricks.”  I am influenced by a lot though.  Aside from the previously mentioned, I grew up with Madonna, Michael Jackson, Celtic Music, Bluegrass, Kate Bush, Paula Cole, etc.  For the most part, everything that appeals to me musically becomes an influence.”

Jennings will return to The Grape Room on Monday, August 15 as the Open Mic  Featured Performer.

Mother discusses sex with groupies, strippers and why NYC is better than Philly

From whipsandchords.com:
They say every good artist has a muse. What would you consider your muse?

I know it’s a general sounding answer, but I always finding myself looking back at my own life for inspiration. Sometimes even looking forward and seeing what things would be like in the future. I love taking in everything around me and so many happenings in our everyday lives make for great material. I especially like the weird and crazy things about the people in this world, including myself!
